Reviews

I particularly adore the way they have integrated the living improvisatory tradition
of folkloric music from Veracruz with its musical ancestors from the Baroque.
The idea is musicologically sound, and it creates a fabulous live concert experience.

About CD Laberinto en la guitarra by Ensamble Continuo:

[This is a] fascinating CD, […] a joyful and surprising collection of musical pieces […]
the level of performance is high all over the recording,
and this makes the hearing of this ludic  Labyrinth a wonderful aural experience.
-Juan Arturo Brennan (La Jornada, Mexico)

The performance is lively and casual,
with a bright, transparent sound that’s full of color and variety […]
This recording should appeal to many tastes,
and is of special interest to those interested in the baroque guitar and it’s music,
or Hispanic music generally.
-Howard Posner (Lute Society of America)

The different combinations of instruments used for each piece  create a beguiling soundscape,
and all the players enter into the spirit of things with
enthusiasm and a real sense of style [...]
Much has been made of the possible connection between the baroque guitar repertoire
and Mexican traditional music.

This is the most effective and enjoyable attempt to draw together the two disparate
strands of music making into a convincing whole that has come my way to date.
-Monica Hall (The Lute Society, London)

This CD was recommended by the Tower Sunset store, which is,
if nothing else, full of very opinionated people. It is, in a word, sensational.
[...] This album seamlessly fuses jarocho and baroque sensibilities.
The liner notes explain far better than I can what the intent was.
My advice: buy this CD.
